An artist's inspiration...
…for as long as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated by houses. At its core, a simple construct – four walls, providing shelter, warmth and comfort from the elements. But beyond that, often, a uniqueness and character in a house that is a reflection of the owners and people living inside, and bringing to life, what makes a house, a home.
My medium reflects my inspiration...
…as wood is often the foundation of a house, I sketch and design on wood panels and carefully choose the part of the design that I wish to elevate the surface in order to create more depth. The materials for this process can be simply glued pieces of wood, or hardened modeling paste which requires several steps such as tracing, cutting, pasting and sanding. This unique process of visual and textural work is an influence from my education and training as a sculptor.
In my work...
…houses are either simple structures with basic shapes or perfectly completed forms. When you move beyond its construct, and view the houses as ‘homes’, one can begin to imagine the stories behind the homes.
Exploring different styles of houses...
…through my sketching, drawing, and painting, I explore the different styles of houses and it inspires me to create them as characters that tell their own stories.
Each painting...
…is a set with a theme or an event, a surrounding scenary or place, a time or a season, all intended to express throughts to convey emotions, and to reflect life.
My art work...
…consists of a multiple range of mixed media, all coming together to express itself, inviting viewers to approach the art, to appreciate the texture, and to discover the finer details.
